Two new precision observables in kaon physics

Certain rare kaon decays constitute our most sensitive probes of high-energy dynamics in the standard model and beyond. Recent theoretical efforts focused on direct and indirect CP violation in the neutral kaon system. After a general introduction to the topic, I will present the most recent results for two of the most exciting observables, namely, $\epsilon_K$ and the rare decay $K_L \to \mu \mu$.
