The Long Story Short: Quantum Simulations for High Energy Physics

Eventually, quantum computers will solve questions in high energy physics which are inaccessible to classical computation such as the ab initio inputs to neutrino-nucleus scattering, early universe cosmology, and neutron star mergers detected by LIGO. To some day take advantage of these resources, many theoretical and computational hurdles must be addressed. In this talk, I will discuss state-of-the-art research in HEP and the outstanding questions that demand our attention, focusing on how the development of nonperturbative formulations will prove critical to extracting physical quantities. While this field is still in its infancy, I hope to show that long-term it will open up multiple previously inaccessible directions to precision theoretical predictions.
